Being Authentic is about Being Consistent

Being Authentic is about Being Consistent – In this article, I am writing about authenticity as a choice when it comes to both personal and business practices.

Before sharing what I believe authenticity is, let me clarify what authenticity is NOT.

Authenticity is not ‘do what you feel like doing’

This is not being authentic. At the very least it’s about being lazy.

Worse, it can mean doing something irrespective of the impact it can have on those around you.

If you don’t fee like calling your client to check on how she is doing, that’s not being authentic.

Authenticity is not ‘speak your mind’ either

It doesn’t mean you have to say everything that comes to your mind, especially if this might be offensive to somebody.

Authenticity is not bursting into a rant because things don’t go your way.

Instead, this is what being authentic is about to me.

Authenticity = Consistency with your promise

You might confuse it with integrity but authenticity is really about being consistent and acting ‘the same way whether or not someone is looking’.

In business, it is about making sure you are consistent with what you promise to do.

It’s about delivering that project on time, just like you said you would.

To a member of the H2H Marketing movement, authenticity means being consistent with your promises, Especially when you don’t feel like doing it.

It also means acknowledging that nobody is perfect, Especially when you make a mistake.
